Texture Mapping and Color Alignment

Color alignment is one of the important processes in the 2D-3D texture mapping. In this paper, a novel method for color alignment is presented. An overview of the method is as follows. Given multiple images of a textured object taken from various positions and three-dimensional geometrical data of the object, we first estimate the surface normal direction of the object in an image using the three-dimensional geometrical model. Second, assuming the object has lambertian surface, we estimate the distant point-light-source direction in the scene. Finally, we estimate the light-source intensities for each texture through two steps: sequential color alignment and simultaneous color alignment.
